Interview with Daniel Albrecht
Alpine skiing world champion, owner of Mondhaus GmbH and holzlöffel.ch fan. With his company «Mondhaus», Dani builds chemical-free houses from pure Swiss wood.
Dani, what fascinates you about working with wood and how did you come up with the idea of working with wood?
When I was building my own home, I started to look into the topic of wood. I always felt comfortable in wooden houses and wanted to know more about them. Wood surpasses other building materials in many ways. I am particularly fascinated by the ecological, building physics and health benefits.
Why do you work with Swiss wood and not with wood from abroad?
Wood is an important Swiss resource that is often overlooked by future builders. Whether for the sake of the environment or local businesses, it makes sense to use materials that can be procured locally. Incidentally, Swiss timber can also compete in terms of price.
What connects you with the brand holzlöffel.ch?
At home, almost everything is made of untreated Swiss wood. I check every product I bring into the house in terms of the material used. When it comes to everyday objects, it's easy to reach for plastic or metal, even though that's often not necessary. Ecological thinking starts small. Or with the shoehorn (grins).
Do you regularly need a shoehorn yourself?
Whenever I put on my shoes at home. I learned this from my father-in-law, who also uses shoehorns regularly. It's like many things: once you're used to using a shoehorn, you soon forget how you used to do it without one (laughs).
Why are shoehorns from holzlöffel.ch a suitable gift?
I really like your shoehorns: they're visually appealing, functional and made in Switzerland. I think local products made from regional materials are always a good choice.
